I have a split personality. Or so I’ve been told. There are
two distinct sides of me which make up one unique personality. Or at least
that’s what I tell myself. Allow me to introduce you to us.
Can best be described as:
- witty
- non-conformist
- hot wing aficionado
I'm constantly evolving and consistently frugal. I've never been fond
of labels (designer or otherwise) and exercise the right to change my mind.
Frequently. Without notice. I sip adult beverages and say grace before meals and snacks. I'm
self-diagnosed with mild-to-moderate OCD and accessorize religiously.
You’re likely to bump into me at:
- a clearance rack
- a smoke-free pool hall
- Jay-Z concert
I was fired from my job as Operations Manager for a staffing and recruiting firm in 2008. I looked for work and decided to launch a blog and a women's entrepreneurial group in 2010.
My dreams of being my own boss started when I was 16 years old. I wanted to become a truck driver. As dumb as that sounds, I was smart enough to know I'd be more profitable if I actually owned the truck and hired my brother to drive for me. My Daddy didn't buy the dump truck and my Mama is adamant in her refusal to acknowledge having told me, "Girls don't drive trucks". It wasn't until I became an adult that I realized my Daddy was an entrepreneur; he owned two trucks that he used to haul junk. When I asked where he worked, he responded in the most humbling way, "I work for myself". He died when I was 18 and shortly thereafter I found myself in an abusive relationship.
If I had to write a summary of my professional experience it would look like this: 15 jobs by the age of 22.
A few years ago, I trademarked The Unemployed Entrepreneur. It isn't someone I became - it's who I've been my entire life.
